Detroit Lions select Darius Slay, CB, Mississippi, 36th overall
- Updated: April 29, 2013
With the 36th pick in the 2013 NFL draft, the Detroit Lions selected cornerback Darius Slay out of Mississippi State. Detroit has needed to reinforce its secondary for some time, and Slay should do just that.
A native of Georgia, Slay attended Brunswick High School, where he played both sides of the ball at running back and defensive back. In 2008, he rushed for over 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns and intercepted six passes, returning two for touchdowns. As a sophomore, he put up 1,127 yards on 142 rushes with 13 touchdowns. His junior season was shortened by an MCL tear after he had rushed for 562 yards and six touchdowns in just five games. He was named All-State by the the Atlanta Journal-Constitution at defensive back following his senior season and was also chosen for the Georgia North-South All-Star Game.
Slay also lettered in basketball and was a standout in the 100- and 200-meter sprints. Slay went to junior college for two years before attending Mississippi State his final two years. He started last year opposite of fellow second-round pick cornerback Johnathan Banks. At the 2013 NFL Scouting Combine, he put up 14 reps on the bench-press event, posted a 35.5-inch vertical jump, and completed the three-cone drill in 6.9 seconds.
How he fits in
Slay will battle veteran Ron Bartell and the three prospects drafted in 2012 for the No. 2 cornerback spot from day one. He has good speed (4.36 seconds in the 40-yard dash) and height (six feet) but is slender at 192 lbs. With his big hands and long arms, he does a good job breaking up passes. He is also a physical tackler with speed who can stick in the back pocket of receivers.
The secondary has been a weakness for Detroit, but it may become a new strength with Chris Houston and Slay at the corners and safeties Louis Delmas and Glover Quin in the back end. The major concern with this selection is Slay’s torn meniscus; fortunately, it will not require surgery to repair. If Slay can use his size, speed and ball skills at the next level, he will be an asset for the Lions.

LMFAO... the Montreal Allouttes technically own Tim Tebow's rights... (trestman's former team) and have said that he would be their back up QB if he came to Canada.
Fuck... Seattle has Will Blackmon, Brett Swain, and Breno Giacomini on their team...
They are giving Minny a run for their money as biggest TT teet suckers.
Seattle only has 5.9M in cap space right now... I don't think they will be extending anyone else this off season.
Vkings have Allen, Robison, Cook, Griffen, Kevin Williams, Charlies Johnson, Gerhart, AJ Jefferson as free agents next year.
Quick poll without someone cheating.... who has the highest Salary of the entire Seahawks roster for next season?
Packers 2014 UFAs...
Finley, Pickett, Raji, J. Jones, Kuhn, Shields (currently), Burnett, Quarless, Newhouse, EDS, M. Neal, Mulligan, Francois, Starks, and CJ Wilson...
Bye Finley, Pickett, Kuhn, Quarless, Newhouse, Francois, and Starks...
I am shocked that Minnesota has kept TE John Carlsson around.. the guy will make 2.55M this year and then jump to 5M, and then 6M and 6M for the remaining parts of his contract... yo uare telling me you couldn't let him walk or restructure in order to keep Winfield??? wtf.
Bushrod goes 7.3M to 8M to 8.7M to 8.9M...
Bennett goes 6M to 6.12M to 6.3M

I'm ordering this for my dog. I will have pictures for Prep as soon as she has it on.
I am just really looking forward to seeing Nelson, Jones, and Cobb all being about 85+ rated... seeing Lacey and Franklin in that backfield with the burner Harris behind them for certain sub packages...
Get to see a guy like Perry lining up along the line.. I always HATED Walden, Zombo, Jones over there.. they just sucked.. I couldn't even put it on easy and get sacks with them... haha
Bishop and the hit stick was just sick...
Get to see Hayward line up in the slot... and McMillin realy came on late in the year too I think. I like him low in the box more than MD Jennings up high...
I also forgot that Kluwe has a base salary of 1.4 Million and is 31 years old.... idiot. easily disposable.
THIS IS NOT FUNNY!
Soccer still holds spot as first openly-gay professional sport.
I just can't wait to get Madden 14... I bought NCAA only last year... That roster is going to be so awesome with all the rookies and roster turn over...
Literally every position in the last 2 years has gotten a new player that is making waves...
Metta World Peace on Collings coming out...
"Whether it's a free country or not, you should be free to act as you want to do as long as it's not violent. No matter what it is. I came here in a Cookie Monster shirt because I wanted to, and I was going to wear the pants. But I thought you guys were going to judge me. I was going to wear the hat too. But I thought you guys would judge me. I didn't want Mitch [Kupchak] to judge me. So that's why I didn't wear the hats and the pants. But I should've wore it. You should be free to do and act how you want to act."
This Josh Boyd... big boy DT from Mississippi State... he has some nice highlights and games out there...
there was a lot of talk of when teams were watching film on Fletcher Cox last year.. that they all really liked Boyd.
soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo now the Vikings are Taking Lions throw offs... Jesus H Christ.
HA! Holy shit, I was looking for details on Rodgers' OLD contract and found some fucking gems from Packers fans...
"Who is blowing who. Ya think maybe wait till the end of the season,
to see how he plays in the cold and when the games mean something.
The Pack is on Crack..TT must come from the same mold of the Raiders
owner. For Rogers I hope he doesn't fall on the ground and get hurt again. What a mess..Super Bowl chance and now lucky if we win a game..Thanks for nothing Packers.."
Based on Potential.........
I think that GB's defense is going to be largely improved with Nick Perry's edge setting.. Datone Jones's inside pressure.. and most importantly IMO is Desmond Bishop returning as a pressure and he was our best coverage LB too.
Prep's college finals:
This is totally relevant so don't give me any flak.
GB is reportedly still working on a 3 year deal with Sam Shields... the deal could be worth 3.5M per season.
The Like Me Page is Rourke's version of a concentration camp for posts. He's one step away from the gas chambers people!
That moment when you realize that the top 10 paid players on your team includes....
Tramon Williams, AJ Hawk, Mason Crosby, and Jermichael Finley..
