The Detroit Lions spent their fourth-round compensatory pick on defensive end Devin Taylor, selecting him 132nd overall.

With the 132nd pick in the 2013 NFL draft, a compensatory selection, the Detroit Lions selected defensive Devin Taylor from the University of South Carolina. Taylor joins an already well-stocked defensive line, so he is likely to see limited action his rookie season.

Bio

Taylor grew up in South Carolina and helped his high school football team win the state championship. Taylor redshirted his freshman year at South Carolina but saw significant playing time from his redshirt sophomore years through his senior year opposite stud defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

How he fits in

At 6’7”, Taylor has great size and at only 266 lbs, he still has room to grow with his frame. His upside is shown by his decent speed (4.72 seconds in the 40-yard dash), 14 reps on the bench press, 35.0-inch vertical jump, and 6.89-second performance on the three-cone drill.

He will be a developmental defensive end behind first-round pick Ezekiel Ansah, Jason Jones, and Willie Young. Although he lacked significant production in college, once he gets moving, he can run well to track down opposing quarterbacks. He needs to work on staying low and improving his short-burst quickness. Given Taylor’s great measurables, defensive line coach Jim Washburn and Kris Koureck should be able to develop him over time.

Grade: B-

Detroit went back to the proverbial defensive end well in the fourth round. Ansah is the new boom-or-bust starter, but Taylor is the project they can develop over time. Now that Ronnell Lewis has switched from linebacker to defensive end, Taylor should be fourth on the depth chart this year with a chance to move up later.

And I could have sworn someone said the Packers got $40 million of Rodgers contract out the way this year.  Not that it made sense or anything...

@robertj72 Ooh. I still can't talk about it. I feel like I should have never introduced her to WCSN in the first place.

@TheChainsawNinja @Sweet melt you bitch So painful to watch. Who told that kid he was good at that? This is why parents should not lie to their kids about how talented they are. Before you know it your kid's is an internet sensation for being a no talent loser.
