Wide receiver Brandon Marshall (15) and quarterback Jay Cutler (6) connected for two touchdowns as the Chicago Bears defeated the New York Giants.

Recap

The Chicago Bears (4-2) intercepted New York Giants (0-6) quarterback Eli Manning three times and returned one for a touchdown in an ugly 27-21 victory on Thursday Night Football.

The first half featured two unstoppable offenses — or more accurately, atrocious defenses — that lead to a 24-14 halftime advantage for the Bears, while the teams took turns shooting themselves in the foot in the second half as not much happened.

The Giants had the ball and were driving for the winning score late when a slightly overthrown Eli Manning pass went through the hands of his receiver and into the hands of Bears cornerback Tim Jennings to seal the win.

Studs

Cornerback Tim Jennings had two interceptions and returned one for a touchdown.  Wide receiver Brandon Marshall caught nine of his 11 targets for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterback Jay Cutler completed 24 of 36 passes for two touchdowns, no interceptions, and a 106.5 passer rating, while also adding 20 yards on three scrambles.Running back Matt Forte amassed 111 yards from scrimmage on 25 touches in a somewhat quiet but effective game.

Duds

To say that Chicago’s defense was not good in this game would be an understatement.

They couldn’t pressure the quarterback — particularly troubling, considering how bad New York’s offensive line is — and allowed washed-up running back Brandon Jacobs to run all over them. Particularly terrible was defensive end Shea McClellin; the Giants ran right at him with great success all night.

Filling in for Charles Tillman, cornerback Zach Bowman struggled tremendously in coverage, although he did grab an interception on the game’s first series.

Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery missed on a few chances to make some plays down the field, finishing with only one catch for 27 yards on five targets.

Right tackle Jordan Mills had another rough outing; although he didn’t give up a sack, he allowed most of the pressure that Cutler saw tonight.

Injuries

Defensive tackle Stephen Paea (toe) and cornerback Charles Tillman (knee) both missed the game.

Middle linebacker D.J. Williams left in the third quarter with a chest injury and did not return; he was later joined on the sideline by strongside linebacker James Anderson, who left for good in the fourth quarter with a back injury.

Wide receiver Alshon Jeffery limped off in the second half but returned..

What’s next

Even though they got the win, it’s hard for the Chicago Bears to feel good coming out of this game. They struggled mightily to beat one of the worst teams in the NFL at home despite being gifted a defensive touchdown. The defensive line—which has struggled all season—reached a new low tonight as they try to find some lineup combinations that will work with all of their defensive tackles out.

The Chicago Bears have ten days to regroup and recover before heading to Washington to take on the Redskins (2-3) in Week 7.

you know what the Bears did do well last night?  barely winning against a crappy team.

Yuk it up today, Packers fans. If the Packers barely beat the Giants -- or worse, lose to them -- I say anyone who comes up with excuses gets bozoed for a day or two.

Good morning.

Bears fans: congrats....

1. Kyle Long is no slouch.  If you are on OL and we do not hear your name, that is a good thing!

2. Nowhere to be seen was bad Jay.  He did all the right things.

3. ONE SACK?  Injuries/people that left have changed Bears D.  Panthers and KC got him 10 times.

4. Did Giants not watch Saints game?  You throw deep vs Bears, someone will punish you!

5. Eli has been exposed this season.  Rodgers MURDERED teams minus any running game.  Eli, the best he can do is take them to 0-6!

I will say this: The Giants had a legitimate chance to get back into the game yesterday. They could have gone for it on fourth down with about three minutes remaining in the second quarter. They make that fourth down, they probably go on to score a touchdown. But they punted the ball away, and with that, they basically ruled themselves out of the game.

You're 0-5, man. Go for it! What do you possibly have to lose?

Terry Bradshaw threw 212 TDs and 210 INTs in his career.  If memory serves, he also threw 4 INTs in a Super Bowl.

@thenichels @ethan_fitz01 Metallica was great in the beginning because they could "play in space".  They didn't need 32 notes a second from the combined band members like most mettle these days.

There are plenty of guys from earlier eras who finished their careers with more INTs than TDs.

Maybe these older era players aren't the gods that some folks now make them out to be!

@Kenny Fucking Powers @FalconsFan0125 Bert and Steve Young were the first of the new era, in many ways.  Sure, Marino got their first, but then things went back to normalcy for a while.  After Burt and Young, you had Warner, then Manning, and the rest is history.  Now 40 tds is hardly a thing.

@„Rourke“ But Favre who was such a horrible piece of shit player, had 508 to 336!  Vs 165 to 141!  TURRIBLE

@Tearloch @Kenny Fucking Powers This is not how the average knob sees it, unfortunately.  On the plus side, you can get you, me, and Woude raging about it pretty easy.  So I guess the trolls of the world win.

@Tearloch @Kenny Fucking Powers I don't think Ben is terrible. I really don't think Eli is all that terrible. Flacco as well. They all fall into my 'good' category.

What's annoying is when they have some good games, or have a streak of good games, and suddenly people think they're elite. Use your eyes! Can they sustain it more than a few games at a time!

@Kenny Fucking Powers @vanderheap19 @Tearloch He's fine with a good line, rush game, and defense. But he's not able to overcome those. There's nothing wrong with that, it just means he's not on that best-of-the-best level the media was trying to put him on.
