New Orleans Saints, New England Patriots meet in battle of “news”

The Patriots have yet to figure out how to stop Drew Brees.

The New England Patriots have yet to figure out how to stop New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees.

Sporting a five-game win streak, the undefeated New Orleans Saints travel to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, to face the New England Patriots (4-1). Pitting two teams with only one loss between them, this contest is the game of the week for many viewers.

That, and it’s Tom Brady versus Drew Brees. That’s kind of a big deal too.

Kickoff for the game is 4:25 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on FOX Sports and Sky Sports 2.

Offensive firepower

Wide receiver Danny Amendola returned last week, but tight end Rob Gronkowski will miss this contest. New England will be relying once again on rookie wide receivers.

This offense more resembles the Patriots of Tom Brady’s early years than the dominant unit he has enjoyed of late. They have only scored more than 23 points once this season. Do they have enough offensive firepower to beat the Saints?

New England is at home, but they are going up against a Saints offense that has everyone healthy except wide receiver Lance Moore.

On the other hand, New Orleans is one of the worst teams in the league against the run, but they have been able to compensate for that by forcing opponents to abandon the run early. New England may look to the run as the equalizer. They must assert their will and prevent the Saints from controlling the tempo.

For their part, the Saints need to run better than they have this season. The lack of a run game has been one of the factors preventing the offense from hitting its stride. If they can improve on the ground, this offense will get scary.

They are squaring off against a New England defense that isn’t very good. They only give up 4.1 yards per carry to the Saints’ 5.4, and they give up fewer points per game (14.0) than New Orleans (14.6), but they are worse against the pass.

Drew Brees looks to remain undefeated in both the regular season, and against Tom Brady

Drew Brees looks to remain undefeated in both the regular season and against Tom Brady.

Regardless of how the numbers look, the Saints can’t afford to count the Patriots out. This is still Tom Brady at home, after all.

3-0

All eyes will be on the two quarterbacks in this game. They have been among the league’s top echelon the past seven or eight years. Both are record-holding, Super Bowl-winning field marshals who love to sling it around the field.

While Brady has more hardware in terms of Super Bowls and MVPs, there is one thing he has yet to do: beat Drew Brees. Dating back to his days in San Diego, Brees is 3-0 all-time when facing Brady. He seems to be at his best when facing Brady.

In those three games, Brady has gone 76 of 121 (62.8 percent) for 814 yards, three touchdowns, and five interceptions. By contrast, Brees has completed 47 of 65 passes (72.3 percent) for 723 yards, eight touchdowns, and no interceptions.

so based on the last 6 weeks i'm adjusting my season prediction for MN.. I'll submit to Robert and agree they won't win anymore than 4 games.. unless Freeman can help this offense drop 40 points a game to counter our defense giving up 39.9 pts a game

So just to clarify, of the 4 teams that had a BYE last week (Was, TB, Pit, Min), only Pittsburgh won. The other 3 lost by 11, 15, and 25 respectively. Damn.

Are Lions fans really gonna say that they beat Cleveland "with ease"?  That game was a back and forth game almost the entire game... Even if they won't admit it... Lions fans were on the edge of their seat almost that entire game...

@Bring Back Driver I don't see how you can say the game was back and forth the whole game.

The Lions outscored the Browns 24-0 in the second half
